In a video shared on his official Facebook page on Thursday, VDM said it was unacceptable for the Grammy-winning singer to profit from Nigerians while many citizens continue to face hostility in South Africa.
"There will be no Tyla concert in Nigeria. It is not happening. This is a warning to the organizers and the show promoters bringing Tyla to Nigeria. That show is not happening," he said.
Referencing the ongoing legal battle involving Chidinma Adetshina in South Africa, he added:
"Not when Chidinma Adetshina is battling deportation in South African court. Now you want to bring in Tyla and sell tickets so that Tyla will make money off Nigerians. The same Nigerians that South Africans hate so much."
VDM further warned that protesters would disrupt the event if organisers proceed with the concert.
"This is a warning to you, if you go ahead with that show, we will come to the venue and we will bring the show down."
His comments come amid growing calls from some Nigerians for a boycott of Tyla's scheduled December 22, 2026 concert in Lagos, following renewed outrage over reported xenophobic attacks and the treatment of Nigerians living in South Africa.
The controversy began after Tyla's management announced her world tour dates, with Lagos included as one of the stops. Since then, several public figures and social media users have urged Nigerians to reject the concert, arguing that it would send the wrong message while concerns over the safety and treatment of Nigerians in South Africa remain unresolved.
