The Nigerian man who recently went viral after taking an oath of fidelity at the insistence of his Canada-based wife has explained why he agreed to the unusual request, saying he was determined to save his marriage.
Frank Obi came under heavy criticism after a video showed him taking an oath never to cheat on his wife, Ezinne Frank Nwanorue, before she would assist him in relocating to Canada.
His wife had earlier accused him of repeatedly cheating on her during their time in Nigeria and insisted that he publicly swear never to be unfaithful again before she would sponsor his relocation.
Addressing the backlash in a Facebook post, Frank said many people misunderstood his decision, stressing that his priority was protecting his family rather than pleasing critics.
"Happy new week. A lot of people all over the world will not understand. Some call me mumu man, some call me foolish man, some said they can't do it. Please don't forget this is my family, not your family. I want the happiness of my home and I will do anything to keep my marriage in peace and love," he wrote.
He added that those mocking his decision today could easily blame him tomorrow if his marriage failed.
"Marriage is a blessing and gift from God. Don't allow pride to kill your marriage because 99% of divorcees today are regretting because of their mistake."
Frank also dismissed suggestions that his marriage was falling apart, describing the couple's challenges as nothing more than temptation.
"Me and my wife have no issue, just temptation. As a man, you have to stand and overcome it. Thanks be to God Almighty for everything. I love my lovely wife and my family," he added.
