Speaking in a recent video, VDM said he had raised the issue of a DNA test earlier in the investigation into Mohbad’s death but faced criticism and alleged threats over his calls for paternity testing.
He claimed that Mohbad’s father, Joseph Aloba, had continued to push for a DNA test to establish whether Liam was biologically related to the late singer.
According to VDM, the court granted the request in February 2026 after Mohbad’s father had repeatedly sought access to Liam for the purpose of conducting the test.
He further claimed that conducting a conventional DNA test could be difficult because Mohbad is deceased and biological samples typically used for such testing may no longer be available.
VDM explained that a tissue-based DNA test could instead be considered, involving the extraction of DNA from preserved human tissue, bone, teeth or another suitable biological sample from a deceased person.
He claimed that a sample from Liam would then be compared with DNA obtained from Mohbad’s remains to establish whether there is a biological relationship.
The activist also alleged that the test may have to be conducted outside Nigeria, claiming that discussions were ongoing about sending samples abroad for analysis.
VDM said the DNA issue remains important to the wider controversy surrounding Mohbad’s death, arguing that determining Liam’s paternity could help answer questions surrounding the late singer’s family and estate.
However, his claims about the court proceedings, the proposed testing process and where the analysis would be conducted have not been independently verified from the material provided. A DNA test is the appropriate scientific means of establishing biological paternity, and until an authorised test is completed and its result released, questions about Liam’s biological father remain allegations rather than established facts.
