‘Lamine Yamal is a great player, but I won’t sign him’ — Mourinho

Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho has praised Barcelona winger Lamine Yamal but ruled out the possibility of signing the teenage star from their Spanish rivals.

Mourinho made the comments while responding to speculation that Real Madrid could make a surprise move for the Barcelona forward.

Speaking in an interview with El Chiringuito, the Portuguese tactician acknowledged Yamal’s quality but insisted that he is not looking to add the player to his squad.

“Will I sign Lamine Yamal? He’s a great player. But no, we already have a top squad,” Mourinho said.

Yamal was part of the Barcelona team that won the LaLiga title ahead of Real Madrid last season.

The teenager scored 16 goals in 26 appearances across all competitions during the campaign.

Yamal has also emerged as one of the leading contenders for the 2026 Ballon d’Or after helping Spain win the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Mourinho’s comments come amid continued speculation over the future of the highly rated youngster, who has established himself as one of the biggest young stars in world football.
