Man who planned to keep ₦20,000 from wrong transfer accidentally sends back ₦700,000

A Nigerian man has gone viral after recounting an unusual mix-up involving a wrong bank transfer and an even bigger repayment mistake.

Sharing the story on X, he explained that he mistakenly transferred ₦70,000 to the wrong Opay account. After contacting the recipient, the man allegedly agreed to return only ₦50,000, insisting he would keep ₦20,000 as a reward for his honesty.

According to the post, the recipient then made an even costlier mistake by accidentally transferring ₦700,000 instead of ₦50,000.

The sender said the man has since been calling repeatedly, pleading for the money to be returned because it allegedly belongs to his employer.

The incident has sparked mixed reactions online, with many social media users debating whether the full amount should be returned immediately, especially after the recipient initially proposed withholding part of the original transfer.
