Outrage as Catholic priest is found st@bbed to de@th in Kogi

The gruesome killing of Catholic priest, Rev. Fr. Samuel Oyetoro, in Ajaokuta Local Government Area of Kogi State has sparked outrage among members of the Catholic community, with parishioners demanding the arrest and prosecution of those responsible.

According to reports, Oyetoro, who was serving at St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church in Ajaokuta, was found dead by the roadside with multiple stab wounds allegedly inflicted by unidentified attackers.

The incident has thrown the parish into mourning, with worshippers describing the killing as shocking and heartbreaking.

Church sources said the late priest was serving as a visiting cleric after previously ministering at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Egbe. He had also celebrated Mass earlier on the day of the attack while standing in for the parish priest, Rev. Fr. Clement Wesaku, who is currently on a two-week leave.

Reacting to the tragedy, the Chairman of St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church, Louis Izugwu, condemned the killing and called for justice.

"Those responsible must be brought to justice," he said.

Another parishioner, Fowoyo John, expressed grief over the priest's death, recalling his final moments with worshippers and urging security agencies to ensure the perpetrators are swiftly apprehended.

The Kogi State Police Command has confirmed that an investigation is underway.

Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Afusat Salihu, said the command is working to unravel the circumstances surrounding the murder and assured residents that those behind the killing would be identified and brought to justice.
