The tragic incident reportedly occurred on Saturday night, leaving residents of the community shocked. Nwaọjị was allegedly attacked while he was asleep, although the circumstances surrounding the incident and what may have triggered the alleged stabbing remain unclear.
A community member, David Amaraizu, confirmed the incident during a telephone conversation with journalists on Sunday.
According to him, the couple got married in December 2025, meaning they had been married for barely eight months before the tragedy.
He said residents were unaware of any disagreement between the couple before the incident.
“We are not aware of any disagreement between the couple before the incident. The woman had been arrested and is currently in police custody, while the deceased’s body had been deposited at a morgue,” he said.
The alleged stabbing has since caused concern in the community, particularly because the couple had only been married for eight months.
When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer in Abia State, Maureen Chinaka, said she would respond to inquiries. However, an official statement from the command was still being awaited as of the time of filing the report.
