Daniel gave the explanation while speaking on Sound Mind with Tolu Afilaka, where he questioned why actors are criticised for kissing scenes when similar physical examinations carried out by medical professionals are not considered immoral.
Using gynecologists as an example, the actor pointed out that their profession requires them to examine women’s intimate body parts as part of their work.
He said, “Would you ask this same question to a gynecologist? Do you know who a gynecologist is? Of course. A gynecologist is a doctor, a medical doctor that saves lives and works with women and looks at the female genitals every day in his life, at work.”
Daniel also referenced the Bible while explaining his position, stressing that a person’s heart and intentions should be considered when judging an action.
“A good man, out of the good things of his heart, bringeth forth good things,” he said.
According to him, “It’s not what goes into a man that destroys him morally. It is what comes out of him.”
The actor further explained that the circumstances surrounding an action, as well as the intention behind it, determine whether it should be regarded as good or evil.
“There’s a condition of your heart that qualifies what you do, that puts what you do in perspective, that judges what you do,” he said.
He also argued that a person can commit a moral wrong without physical contact, noting that even the way someone looks at another person could be considered evil.
“By mere looking at someone, you can do evil. Yes. Much more evil than kissing someone,” Daniel said.
He concluded by maintaining that outward appearances alone should not be used to determine the morality of an action.
“There is a condition of the man’s heart that judges what he does, that qualifies what he does, that makes it good or evil. It’s not what you see from the outside. It’s the condition of his heart,” he said.
