The warning follows a seven-day flood alert issued by the Nigerian Hydrological Services Agency (NiHSA), covering September 19 to 25.
Residents of low-lying, riverine, coastal and other flood-prone areas, including Eti-Osa, Lagos Island, Oke-Ira Nla in Ajah, Kirikiri, Ilaje Waterfront and Jetty Terminal B, have been advised to remain on high alert.
The government also listed low-lying and riverbank communities such as Isheri North, Kara, Itowolo, Ajegunle, Majidun, Ogolonto and parts of Agboyi, as well as other settlements downstream of Isheri Olofin, among areas requiring increased vigilance.
The state government urged residents in vulnerable locations to move to safer and higher ground when necessary, stressing that they should not wait until floodwaters rise before taking action.
“No property is worth risking a life,” the government said.
It added that it was intensifying the monitoring of rainfall and river levels while working with relevant agencies to strengthen flood prevention and response measures.
Residents were also urged to keep drains and waterways free of refuse, avoid walking or driving through flooded areas and rely only on official flood forecasts and advisories.
The government said its priority remains the protection of lives and property, urging Lagosians to remain calm, vigilant and responsive to safety instructions as the situation is monitored.
