“Learn first, research and observe” — Bolaji Ogunmola shares career advice for young creatives

Nollywood actress Bolaji Ogunmola has advised young women who aspire to follow in her footsteps to prioritise learning, research and collaboration before venturing into the industry.

The actress shared the advice while responding to a question about what she would tell young ladies who admire her work and want to pursue a similar career path.

According to Ogunmola, aspiring creatives should not be in a hurry to replicate the success of people they admire without first understanding the process behind it.

She urged them to learn, conduct proper research, observe experienced professionals and seek internship opportunities before taking major risks on their own.

“Before you even start doing it, learn first. Research. Don’t be in a rush. I think people are in a rush to do it. I want to do it. You are Bolaji Ogunmola. No, learn. Observe. Go and intern. Research. That’s the first thing you do,” she said.

Ogunmola also encouraged young creatives to collaborate with others rather than attempting to handle every aspect of their careers alone.

She noted that working with people who have experience or complementary skills can provide valuable knowledge and opportunities that would be beneficial in the long run.

“Then after you’re done, collaborate. Don’t take this risk on your own,” she added.

The actress stressed that having completed a few projects does not automatically mean one should attempt to handle everything independently, urging upcoming talents to build relationships and learn from others as they grow.
