Peter Obi reveals where he would celebrate Sallah if elected president

Presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, has revealed that he would prefer to celebrate the Muslim festival of Sallah in Sokoto or Kano if elected President of Nigeria.

Obi said he would choose to spend the occasion with the Sultan of Sokoto in Sokoto State, or alternatively celebrate in Kano State.

He made the remark while comparing his preferred approach to Sallah celebrations with that of incumbent President Bola Tinubu, who is also a Muslim and typically celebrates the festival in Lagos State.

According to Obi, his choice of Sokoto or Kano would reflect the symbolic importance of presidential participation in major religious and cultural celebrations across different parts of the country.

“President Tinubu, who is a Muslim, spends his Sallah in Lagos State. If I’m President, I’ll spend my Sallah in Sokoto State with the Sultan or in Kano State,” Obi said.

The statement has since attracted attention, particularly over the role of presidential visits in promoting national unity and recognising the cultural and religious significance of different regions of Nigeria.
