A Nigerian man has called out MTN after alleging that 20GB of data on his line disappeared within hours, leaving him unable to make payments, send WhatsApp messages or access his banking apps.
In a post shared on X, the man, identified as KAA, said he went to bed with more than 10GB of data on his MTN line but woke up to discover that it was no longer available.
He said he subsequently purchased another 20GB, made a post on Facebook and left for work without realising that the problem was caused by an MTN network outage rather than his data balance.
According to him, his phone automatically connected to the office Starlink Wi-Fi when he arrived at work around 9am, meaning he did not immediately notice the network issue.
He later left the office to get food and discovered that his banking applications would not open when he attempted to make payment at a restaurant.
He also said his WhatsApp messages were not delivering, prompting him to restart his phone several times, but the problem persisted.
“After spending several minutes trying while the ladies attending to me had lots of things running through their minds, I had to call someone to make the payment for me,” he wrote.
KAA added that throughout the ordeal, he initially did not realise that the problem was with the MTN network and not his data balance.
