Speaking during an episode of the Afrobeats Intelligence podcast, the singer explained that artistes must consistently release successful songs after their first major hit to maintain financial stability.
He revealed that despite being signed to Mavin Records by its founder, Don Jazzy, it took him two to three months to start earning money from music.
According to Magixx, he struggled to pay bills and meet family responsibilities during the period, despite being signed to a major record label.
He also disclosed that people often assumed he had no financial problems because of his affiliation with Mavin Records, making it difficult for him to seek financial assistance.
The singer further explained that the number of hit songs an artiste has significantly influences their performance fees, noting that one hit could earn an artiste between ₦500,000 and ₦700,000 per show, while another could increase the fee to ₦1.5 million.
He said, “Even when you get signed to a big record label as an artiste, you first have to drop a song with international appeal before you start making serious money. It took two to three months after Don Jazzy signed me before I started earning from music.
“Before the money started coming, I was struggling with bills and family responsibilities. The worst part is that if I ask people for financial assistance, they would say I am signed to a big label, and money shouldn't be my problem.
“It was difficult because I had to maintain the lifestyle of a superstar with expensive designer clothes. But eventually, the money started coming.
“One hit song can earn you ₦500,000–₦700,000 per show, while another hit can take your fee to ₦1.5 million.”
