The event, themed "The Journey – Celebrating 5 Decades of Culture, Resilience and Music," is scheduled to hold on August 9, 2026, at Eko Hotels and Suites, Lagos. The red carpet will begin at 5 p.m., while the main concert starts at 6 p.m.
Organised by ConfamMade Entertainment in collaboration with Yaw Naija Production, the concert aims to honour the legendary entertainer's immense contribution to Nigerian music and culture.
Speaking about the event, producer and radio personality Steve Onu, popularly known as Yaw, said the celebration is dedicated to recognising music legends whose impact on the industry should never be forgotten.
"I have taken it upon myself to celebrate the legends who made our growing up fun. A lot of people may not remember them often because we have a flood of new artists, but people like Daddy Showkey were there from the onset, and seeing him mark 50 years as a performer is worth celebrating," Yaw said.
The concert will feature performances from an impressive lineup of Nigerian stars, including 2Baba, Faze, KCee, African China, 9ice, King Saheed Osupa, Oritse Femi, Iyanya, Pasuma, Marvelous Benji, Originator, Stereo Man, and several other artistes.
Born John Odafe Asiemo, Daddy Showkey is widely regarded as one of the pioneers of Nigeria's Galala music movement, a street-inspired genre that dominated the country's music scene in the 1990s.
Raised in Ajegunle, Lagos, he became famous for blending reggae, dancehall and indigenous sounds into energetic songs with strong social messages. His hit tracks, including "Fire Fire," "Diana," and "Somebody Call My Name," made him one of the country's most influential entertainers.
Beyond his success, Daddy Showkey is credited with inspiring and paving the way for many musicians from Ajegunle, while his influence continues to resonate in today's Afrobeats and street-pop scene.
Despite surviving a near-fatal shooting incident in 2007 that left him with an eye injury, the music legend returned to the stage and has remained active as a performer, cultural ambassador and youth advocate.
