ABSU suspends professor over claim that Keke riders earn more than lecturers

The management of Abia State University (ABSU) has suspended a professor after he alleged that some lecturers at the institution earn less than commercial tricycle operators, popularly known as Keke riders.

Professor Nnamdi Nwaeze of the Department of Economics, Faculty of Economics and Management Sciences, had made the claim in a post on his Facebook page.

Nwaeze alleged that some professors at ABSU earn below N400,000 monthly, adding that the combined earnings of some Keke riders are higher than what professors receive at the university.

The university management, however, described the professor’s social media posts as inimical to the interests of the institution and announced his immediate suspension.

The decision was contained in a statement signed by Chijioke Nwogu, the institution’s Public Relations Officer and Deputy Registrar.

The management also disclosed that an investigative panel had been constituted to examine the allegations and circumstances surrounding the professor’s posts.

The university is expected to take further action after the panel concludes its investigation.
