Speaking in a recent interview with media personality Nedu Wazobia, Josh2Funny reacted to rapper YCee’s description of the trend as the “Olodo Uprising.”
He said critics were being overly harsh on content creators labelled as unintelligent, arguing that comedy has never necessarily been about intelligence or polished communication.
“What YCee said is straight-up the truth. There’s an uprising of the Olodo people. Now, it’s a blessing and a curse,” he said.
Reflecting on his early career, Josh2Funny recalled that his popular Mama Felicia character was not based on sophisticated or carefully articulated comedy.
“When I started, it was easy for people to call me part of the Olodo Uprising. My character, ‘Mama Felicia’, didn’t make any sense. It wasn’t a well-articulated comedy. I was just fooling around,” he said.
He maintained that comedy could appeal to audiences without necessarily being intellectually sophisticated, noting that the entertainment industry had benefited significantly from such content.
“Comedy has never been something that is supposed to be intelligent. The so-called elite might call it ‘stupid’, but it built a million-dollar industry called Nollywood,” he added.
According to him, social media has amplified the trend by giving creators with unconventional styles unprecedented visibility.
“It’s just that social media has now exaggerated it. The person in question, Peller, you see him all the time. If it were when there was no social media, nobody would know what he does,” he said.
Josh2Funny also defended Peller against critics who mock his educational background and manner of speaking, arguing that his success should not be dismissed because he does not have a university degree.
“Some people are envious of him for being blessed without a degree or quality education. But what would you have him do? Should he become a thief because he doesn’t know how to speak good English?” he asked.
