Nigerian singer and entertainer Segun Johnson has sparked reactions after claiming that anyone without $1 million cannot be considered financially comfortable by today’s standards.
Speaking during a conversation, the singer reflected on how economic realities have changed over the years, noting that having ₦30 million was once enough to be regarded as a millionaire.
According to him, the value attached to wealth has shifted significantly, making even ₦100 million seem insufficient to meet what he described as modern millionaire standards.
“Back then in those days, if you have 30 million, you are actually a millionaire. In this present age, if you don’t have $1 million, you are broke, you are not a millionaire. That’s the truth,” he said.
Segun further argued that simply having ₦100 million does not automatically make someone a millionaire in the current economic climate.
“The fact that you have 100 million doesn’t make you a millionaire,” he added.
The singer, however, joked that having ₦1 million could still earn someone the status of a wealthy person within certain communities.
“But you might be a millionaire among people in Ojota, or probably people in Oworonshoki,” he said.
