‘I was turned back by Shade Okoya’ – Razaq Okoya’s first son alleges Shade blocked access to father amid 30-year rift

Fatai Okoya, the 66-year-old first son of billionaire businessman Chief Razaq Okoya, has opened up about his 30-year estrangement from his father, alleging that he was prevented from approaching him during his 86th birthday celebration.

Fatai made the revelation during a TikTok Live session following his public apology, where he recounted several attempts to reconnect with his father.

“I have tried very much to get in touch with my father,” he said, adding that he was often prevented from getting close to him.

Recounting his experience at Razaq Okoya’s 86th birthday celebration on January 12, 2026, Fatai said he received a VIP welcome but was allegedly stopped by his father’s wife, Shade Okoya, from approaching him.

“I was turned back by Alhaja Shade Okoya,” he said, explaining that he only wanted to greet his father.

Fatai further claimed that his father saw him at the event but did not speak to him.

“My father did not have anything to say,” he added.

Explaining the origin of their disagreement, Fatai said the rift stemmed partly from a small amount of money he took when he was younger and reckless. He also cited his decision to marry a woman his father reportedly disapproved of, insisting that he was young and in love at the time.

According to him, his grandmother was unhappy about the prolonged family dispute and once questioned his father about what would happen to his siblings after her death.

Chief Razaq Okoya’s brother, who was present during the TikTok Live session, also criticised the alleged circumstances that prevented Fatai from seeing his father.

Fatai apologised again and appealed for an opportunity to reconcile with the billionaire businessman, recalling how close they were during his childhood.

Meanwhile, the session’s host, Yeyekudi, called on billionaire businessman and Razaq Okoya’s friend, Baba Ijebu, to intervene and help reunite the father and son.
