‘Poor people shouldn’t have kids’ – Ms. DSF sparks debate over financial readiness for parenthood

Nigerian actress and DJ Dorcas Shola Fapson, popularly known as Ms. DSF, has sparked debate after stating that financially struggling people should not have children if they cannot afford to cater for their needs.

Speaking on a recent episode of the In My Opinion podcast, the entertainer argued that having children without the financial means to provide for them was unfair to the children, their parents and the wider family.

“Poor people shouldn't have kids. I don't think it is fair to the children. It is not fair to the family. It is not fair to you,” she said.

Ms. DSF cited the experience of a cousin with five children, claiming that she had struggled financially since having her first child and frequently sought assistance for school fees and feeding.

“Why do you have five? Every week, she is requesting for financial assistance for school fees, feeding. It is so unfair. Why have kids when you don't have means to sustain them? It is not fair,” she added.

The actress disclosed that she grew up in a humble home but said she had resolved not to bring children into a similar financial situation.

She urged people planning to become parents to consider their financial capacity and ensure they can adequately provide for their children before having them.
