RMD reveals mother’s advice that shaped his life and career

Veteran actor Richard Mofe-Damijo, popularly known as RMD, has revealed the advice from his mother that has continued to shape his values, discipline and approach to life and career.

The actor said his mother repeatedly reminded him, “Don’t forget whose child you are,” a lesson he said taught him to remain conscious of his responsibilities and the values he represented.

RMD also credited renowned writers Wole Soyinka and J.P. Clark with influencing his understanding of discipline and professionalism. He recalled how their insistence on punctuality shaped his attitude towards time, noting that he considers timeliness important.

According to him, his experiences in the creative industry and during his eight years in government service further strengthened the values instilled in him while growing up.

RMD said his journey has taught him that individuals must know when to challenge a system and when to leave it and create something better elsewhere.

He added that at different stages of life, people represent more than themselves, making it important to remain disciplined, responsible and mindful of the values they carry.
