DNA samples collected from Mohbad’s remains, son Liam as paternity dispute takes new turn

DNA samples have been collected from the remains of late Nigerian singer Mohbad and his son, Liam, under court supervision as the prolonged paternity controversy surrounding the child moves closer to resolution.

The exercise took place on Saturday, October 31, 2026, following an application by the singer’s wife, Omowunmi Aloba, for a court-approved DNA test to establish Liam’s paternity.

The dispute gained public attention after Mohbad’s father, Joseph Aloba, repeatedly questioned the child’s paternity and demanded a DNA test, leading to prolonged legal proceedings.

Following the court’s approval of Omowunmi’s application, a welfare officer was appointed to supervise the exercise, with October 31 fixed for the collection of samples.

The process was conducted under heavy security amid concerns about possible disturbances, particularly after Joseph reportedly called on his online supporters for backing, while some social media users suggested staging protests at the venue.

Mohbad’s mother, Abosede, younger brother, Adura, and wife, Omowunmi, were present during the proceedings.

The exercise reportedly became emotional when the late singer’s body was identified as part of the process.

Samples were collected from Mohbad’s remains at Mainland General Hospital, popularly known as the Infectious Diseases Hospital, Yaba. They were subsequently transported under tight security to the Lagos State DNA and Forensic Centre, where Liam’s samples were also obtained for forensic examination.

Speaking after the exercise, the family’s lawyer, Barrister Kabiru, said no date had been fixed for the release of the results.

He explained that the parties would be formally notified through the court once the findings were ready.

The DNA test marks a significant development in the paternity dispute, which has generated widespread controversy since Mohbad’s death in September 2023, with the findings expected to provide scientific evidence to assist the court in determining the matter.
